Araghchi: Iran to snap back if Congress rejects JCPOA

TEHRAN, Sep. 16 (MNA) – Iran’s senior negotiator in Vienna talks attended a hearing session in JCPOA Special Committee of Iran’s Parl. on Wednesday.

Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi briefed the 15 MPs of the Iranian Parliament's Special Committee for reviewing JCPOA on Wednesday.

Araghchi told the MPs that the agreement is reciprocal and if either sides, whether Iran or the Sextet, violate it, the other side can snap back to its former discipline.

The senior diplomat highlighted that as the agreement has been approved by the UN Security Council, infringing it may have legal consequences for the infringer.

In response to a question on US Congress possible disapproval of the agreement and annulling it, Araghchi reassured that then Iran would continue its nuclear program without the limits devised in the deal.

In August 19, Parliament appointed 15 lawmakers as members of an ad hoc committee tasked with reviewing the Vienna agreement of July 14, dubbed JCPOA (Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action).
